From Rex :  Full day at Capitol Reef
We had a good day of nice weather, sight seeing, and hiking today. Everything is as expected, definitely no surprises, but the park experience is good always. It is even better without the summer tourist crunch and much cooler temperature for a very comfortable hike. I cannot imagine that we can do as much as we have today in the heat of summer.

From Rex : Capitol Reef to Canyonland National Park

There is not much to talk about for a SEVEN hour tour of Canyonland but I will use my pictures to do the talking instead. Weatherwise, it is the best for the last few days with wind slowing down a to a comfortable breeze. The park is far from overcrowded. Traffic was light, making moving around fairly easy. We did not see everything recommended by the ranger but we have far exceeded our originally plan. Moab has changed a lot since we left more than 15 years ago with the addition of MacDonalds and even Dennys. Food and service were adequate adding to the success of a very good touring day.

(all pics were uploaded directly from memory card, no post processing)

From Rex :  Arches

Images not processed. There are a lot of blowouts at both ends of the histogram at the same time indicating extreme light values with this kind of shooting condition.

We had two hikes, one strenuous and one moderate. A fitness test everyone one of us could pass easily.   Having done that, all scheduled hikes were completed with flying colours.

From Rex : An afterthought - Colorado Plateau Grand Circle Tour

Dear All:

After dropping off the last group from Hong Kong at the airport for their return trip, the grand tour of Canada and the US southwest has come to an end, at least for now.  It has been a wonderful experience for all of us from the luxurious Alaskan cruise to the bare basic down to earth self guided land cruise. Going on a trip is about getting a memory, and I am sure everyone of us has got one that can last a life time. You should be proud of yourselves. Mission accomplished.

It was a nature lovers' dream come true. It also gave us a chance for self renewal and self assurance that we can still do it; with a surprising outcome that we once again discovered our waistlines had shrunk again (What do you say, So Cheung?); the ever lasting memory of the beautiful sunset at the Windows; the cool refreshing Virgin River wade in the heart of the Zion Canyon; the thrill of the Delicate Arch; the hikes up the punishing slickrocks; the magnificent Colorado River at Dead Horse Point; the cultural immersion at the Cliff Palace with a very sweet park ranger; but don't forget that horrible motel at Panguitch......... and most of all, a group of very eager participants making a very enjoyable outdoor experience.

I too have learnt a lot during this wonderful trip. Just like the ranger at Cliff Palace, it was my first time as a guide and I felt privileged to try out my new shoes with you. I might look tense ( hey Joanne!) but believe me, I enjoyed every minute of it as much as you do. There was nothing better than seeing happiness and satisfaction in you. Something worth more than anything. Once again, thank you very much by selecting me as your guide. Happy Travel.

Rex (Toalyau)

(ps, sorry for the duplication if you get this email from the Akinna group again)

(To Rex, I did try to single out the duplicates before uploading, hope it's alright.)

I am so proud of you guys!

From Rex :  Last batch of tour pictures

Dear All:

I have just finished processing my last batch of pictures. Being to Photoshop for only about 2 years, photo editing is still new to me. Some people have been commenting that my pictures are too bright. This time around, I have tried a new approach. Please let me know.

#10, pretrip tour of the Richmond Oval
#11, Richmond Oval walking pass the pond (now algae infested)
#12, painting like Bryce Canyon. Image captured by C.
#12a, Delicate Arch at a distance. While most people concentrate on close-ups, C shot an environment image.
#13, group photo with a petrified log (wood compressed into real stone underground force)
#13a, Sunset at the turret windows. Natural light is very rich at sunset giving the characteristic orange to red glow.
#13b, an enthusiastic group shooting the sunset, full concentration.
#14 and 15, Monument Valley in the afternoon. Hot, bumpy, dry with full desert colour.
#16, new sculpture at Mesa Verde representing native culture.
#17, Ah Fun is having fun navigating the inside of Mesa Verde.
#18, So Cheung dazed after emerging from the tunnel.
#19, Ah Min looking back in disbelief.
#20, Wading the Virgin in the Narrows of Zion Canyon.

Till the next time.
